Debt is a dark, scary and fast spiral to get into, and one that can feel impossible to get out of. If you are in debt, or have already tried to help yourself and don’t know where to turn, see below and reach out to one of these companies for some help and advice. You are never alone in these situations, although it may sometimes feel like it.  

Step Change

Step Change is a charity who give 100% free and impartial advice to anyone struggling financially. From budgeting to bankruptcy, debt consolidation to equity release, they will be able to take a look into your finances and help get you on the right path. They have been helping people since 1993, and help in excess of half a million people per year.

PayPlan

Similar to Step Change, Pay Plan is another company who have been helping people since the early 90s. Advice tailored to suit your needs, they can help and give confidential feedback to best suit your circumstances. Whether its debt solutions or debt advice, their team can help get you back on your feet.

Money Advice Service

The Money Advice Service is what it says on the tin; money advice. They have so many amazing articles on pretty much any and all financial issues, as well as some great budget planners, tools and calculators. They can also help point you in the right direction if you require further help and advice, and you could pick some great pointers up if you are struggling but not fully in a circle of debt.

National Debt Line

This charity can help either over the phone, via webchat, or via email, with any debt related issues you have. Like the others, they are free, confidential, and with zero judgement. They will discuss your money troubles and work out a plan to getting you back on track.

Citizens Advice

Although Covid has messed things up here, most towns have a Citizens Advice office you can pop into for further advice. No matter the issue, they can either help, or give you information on charities and companies full of experts who can help.

Samaritans

Although not able to help specifically with your debt issues, they can help with the mental struggles that inevitably come with it. Being in debt can be incredibly daunting, and feeling you have no one to talk to can leave you feeling lost and alone. If you have ever felt as though you have nowhere to turn, then give the Samaritans a call. They can talk you through your struggles and point you in the right direction on where to get help . It is so important to know you are not alone, and in a time where we never needed assistance more with either our financial or mental health, just know there are people you can talk things through with. In confidentiality, and with no judgement, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
